HISTORY
The Vigil for International Peace in Central Park’s Bandshell has been the vision of a few people with the same intent: Create an event to celebrate, transform and inspire all peoples to share a Peaceful Planet. The Vigil has no political affiliations, no sponsors and no religious orientation.

In the early days of spring 2000, Susana Bastarrica met the international clairvoyant-visionary Martin Zoller for coffee and the rest is history. Martin advised Susana that he was seeing her in a large-open space - full of trees - a beautiful sunny day in a very large popular area surrounded by people, chanting, dancing and kneeling on the floor. Susana would be on a large stage praying with her eyes closed surrounded by instruments, friends and people... lots of people doing what appeared to be a ‘ritual’. At the time Susana was unaware of the events to follow.

Susana met several friends at the United Nations and with their help started looking at the various resolutions presented by the UN for a cease-fire and non violent communication based on two resolutions presented in 1981 and subsequently in September 2001.

The first Vigil for International Peace (VIP) was held on the 21st of September 2002 to coincide with the United Nations designated International Day of Peace on September 21st each year. The Vigil For International Peace is held in the Bandshell in New York’s Central Park on the closest Sunday to September 21st.

The inspiration for the VIP logo came from several drawings and sketches presented at an exhibit for peace. Helga Schleech and Susan Bastarrica with the inspiration from Wendy Rabinowitz, created the elements envisioning a new emerging world from the womb of the earth. The color orange has represented for many, inspiration, retreat, inner search and peace. The turquoise blue is the power of heaven and water. In the first version of the logo we had a photo of a Central Park white pigeon. This was updated 2005 when Lincoln Karin presented us with the grand photo of “Pale Male” the Central Park symbol of freedom and perseverance.
