VIP 2002
The first VIP started on a beautiful clear Sunday morning with preparations stating at 5am. By 9am all were gathered for an opening prayer and welcome greeting.

The Vigil was graced by the presence of His Holiness Professor Lin Yun who has subsequently participated in the VIP every year since its inception. Other key speakers on peace included Rabbi Roger Ross from the New Seminary who conducted an interfaith prayer with local community ministers from various religions, Central Park Commissioner Castro, and the Ambassador of Uruguay.

Throughout the day, many spectators were drawn by the beauty of the art and delightful music sounds and humming prayers from performers such as James Cannings Music, Martial Arts for Peace, Children’s art from Queens, Jean Barlow – In the Flow Music, and the Peace Prayer Society Flag Ceremony, Later in the afternoon Susana rounded up all spectators who joined in a beautiful circle dance.

 

The first Vigil for International Peace (VIP) was held on the 21st of September 2002 to coincide with the United Nations designated International Day of Peace on September 21st each year. The Vigil For International Peace is held in the Bandshell in New York’s Central Park on the closest Sunday to September 21st.
